Martine Rose Spring/Summer ’14 Presentation

British menswear designer Martine Rose unveiled her SS14 collection as part of London Collections: Men at The Hospital Club on Monday 17th June.

Drawing on the elusive and elite feeling of the ‘Martine Rose Man’ created throughout past collections and spaces Martine decided to showcase the collection as a static presentation this season.

The presentation was shown over a two hour period with guests free to interact with the set and the clothes featured in the installation. This gave them the opportunity to see the designs up close and experience the quality and textures of the pieces. The presentation featured rotating platforms, one for the model to show the clothes. However there were also rotating cacti, oranges and football boot.

Martine played with amalgamating chairs from different cultures, time periods and styles to create something surprising, original.  A further nod to this comes through in the full cut out side panels that appear across the collection trimmed with lace and ribbon- this in reflection of windows and curtains.

Martine Rose has this season explored the idea of accepting a prescribed notion of masculinity; particularly in what we accept and define as masculine. For SS14 Martine Rose has pushed these limits playing with expectations of society in different ways.
